ABOUT

BIO | C.V.

Elaine Sakiris is a visual artist working with photography and mixed media. Her work often takes the final form of a photograph and is composed of visual symbols, conceptual elements, mixed media materials and the physical expression of her subjects. She examines a particular moment in a person’s existence, touching on themes of internal and physical transition, a limited existence, and the sensual quality of life.

Sakiris was born in Ottawa, Canada in 1971 to a Greek father of Istanbul and an Anglo-Indian mother. Following her mother’s death, Sakiris was raised solely by her father, an architect, who shared with her an appreciation for design. He also encouraged musical and visual arts training to complement her formal education in mathematics and computer science that concluded in 1997 with an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Sakiris is a 2005 graduate of the New England School of Photography and has explored drawing, painting and sculpture in other classroom and formal studio settings. Her work has been recognized in juried competitions, appeared in publications and is found in private North American collections. She was featured in Northeast Exposure Online (Boston Photographic Resource Center) and has been selected for group and juried exhibitions including the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA and The New Space Center for Photography in Portland, OR.

Sakiris is based out of the Toronto, Canada area where she works and lives with her husband and son.
