Elaine Sakiris (Canadian, b.1971, Ottawa, ON) is a Toronto, Canada based visual artist working primarily with photography. Drawing from the everyday, her images hint at timeless stories about the human condition entwined or expressing itself in the natural world. She finds contemporary connections to the stories, symbols, and allegories found in poetry, myth, folklore and fairy tales.

Elaine began her second career in the visual arts in 2005, after graduating from the New England School of Photography. As the daughter of an architect and single parent, she grew up spending many hours at the local art school exploring various media, eventually concentrating on drawing and photography. She also graduated from the University of Toronto with an M.B.A. and worked ten years as a business consultant in information technology and business strategy.

A recipient of the Tyler Munroe Award for Creative Excellence, Elaine’s photographs have been exhibited in group shows at the Griffin Museum of Photography, the New Space Center of Photography, the Garner Center for Photographic Exhibitions; published in print and online SHOTS Magazine, Don't Take Pictures, and New England Exposure Online.

Elaine's photographs and mixed media are also found in private collections.

In the Everyday

Drawn from everyday life, photographs about the human condition entwined in the natural world. An ongoing long-term project, looking at our connections to the natural world through the symbols, characters, and other visual references found in literature, poetry, myths, and folklore.
